Welcome from
Executive Headteacher
- Mr Constable-Phelps
St Mary’s Church of England Primary and Nursery is a high-performing, exceptionally diverse and deeply inclusive school at the heart of Southampton. Over the past five years, we have built a school of which we are immensely proud. Our children come to us from many different backgrounds, cultures and starting points, but our ambition for every one of them is the same: to flourish. When Ofsted visited in 2023, inspectors said: “Pupils flourish at this exceptional school.” That remains at the heart of St Mary’s today.
We believe that every child has a gift. Something they can be proud of, something that makes them shine and something they can share with the world. Our responsibility is to find that gift, nurture it and give every child the knowledge, confidence and opportunities to fulfil their potential. Our staff are the secret to our success. They know our children, believe in them and consistently go the extra mile to ensure that every child is known, valued and challenged to achieve their very best.
St Mary’s is more than a place where children come to learn. It is a community in which children belong, families are welcomed and difference is celebrated. We are proud of what we have built and even more ambitious about what comes next Come and see St Mary’s for yourself. Come and see what it means for children to flourish.

Today, our children enjoyed exploring the outdoors while developing their teamwork, communication and trust in one another! π€
They created a sensory trail, taking turns to guide each other safely, before spotting some resources and deciding to build their very own den! πΏ
Luckily, their teacher had brought snacks, making their new den the perfect snack stop! π
We are so proud of the friendships they've built and the way they worked together to achieve something brilliant! π 5 Likes
What a busy and exciting week we've had in Preschool! π
π³ We've been making the most of our outdoor space, developing our gross motor skills as we climbed, balanced and explored the climbing frames and wall with our friends.
ππ₯ We've been learning about Harvest, enjoying lots of imaginative play in our shop, taking turns shopping and chatting about the foods we enjoy with our families.
πͺβ¨ With some of our families celebrating Diwali, the children have been creating beautiful rangoli patterns using coloured rice and pasta. We also explored fireworks, using different materials to create colourful firework artwork for our Preschool displays! π
ππ Our story of the week, Amara's Farm, inspired some wonderful sensory exploration! The children enjoyed tasting figs and kiwis, as well as handling and investigating the vegetables featured in the story.
Another lovely week filled with creativity, curiosity, friendship and learning through play! π 1 Likes

ππ This week, we have been discovering all about Harvest, finding out where different fruits and vegetables grow and how they are harvested.
πβ¨ We have also been linking lights to celebrations and talking about the sights, sounds and colours of fireworks!
π΅πΊ In Maths, we have been busy investigating 2D shapes, learning to recognise and name different shapes and spotting them in the world around us!
