St Mary’s Church of England Primary and Nursery is a high-performing, exceptionally diverse and deeply inclusive school at the heart of Southampton. Over the past five years, we have built a school of which we are immensely proud. Our children come to us from many different backgrounds, cultures and starting points, but our ambition for every one of them is the same: to flourish. When Ofsted visited in 2023, inspectors said: “Pupils flourish at this exceptional school.” That remains at the heart of St Mary’s today.
We believe that every child has a gift. Something they can be proud of, something that makes them shine and something they can share with the world. Our responsibility is to find that gift, nurture it and give every child the knowledge, confidence and opportunities to fulfil their potential. Our staff are the secret to our success. They know our children, believe in them and consistently go the extra mile to ensure that every child is known, valued and challenged to achieve their very best.
St Mary’s is more than a place where children come to learn. It is a community in which children belong, families are welcomed and difference is celebrated. What a wonderful first half term it has been in Pathways! We are so proud of the progress the children have made.
Over the past few weeks, we have seen the children grow in confidence, become more familiar with their surroundings and develop positive relationships with the adults and children around them. It has been lovely to get to know each child better, discovering their individual personalities, interests and the different ways they communicate, express themselves and engage with their learning. 🌈
Throughout the half term, we have been focusing on developing communication and interaction skills, becoming familiar with daily routines and building the foundations for positive learning experiences. Every small step is an important achievement, and it has been wonderful to celebrate the children's individual successes along the way. 🌟
We are incredibly proud of everything the children have achieved so far and look forward to seeing their confidence, independence and friendships continue to grow.
We hope all our Pathways families are enjoying a lovely half-term break, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back for more learning, exploration and fun! 🍂❤️ 2 Likes
What a wonderful first half term we have had in Preschool! We've been looking back at all the fantastic learning, exploring and fun we've enjoyed together. ❤️
🔢 In maths, we've been busy exploring repeating patterns and practising our counting to three during key group time. 1, 2, 3! 😊
🪘 As part of Black History Month, we've enjoyed learning about Black history, people and their achievements through stories, music and a range of activities. The children particularly enjoyed listening to African drumming, exploring different rhythms and having a go at creating their own music using instruments. 🎶
🦔 In Understanding the World, we've been learning about hibernation and how some animals prepare for the changing seasons. The children loved using different resources to create warm, cosy beds for our nursery teddies!
💕This half term has been full of new friendships, growing confidence, wonderful discoveries and lots of laughter!
We are so proud of how well the children have settled and all they have achieved during their first half term.

As we reach the end of another busy half term, I would like to congratulate the children on their continued hard work, resilience and enthusiasm for learning.
